Bill Maher is hoping that sixth time’s a charm for this year’s Emmy Awards. That’s because for the past five years, his HBO special ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ has been nominated for ‘Outstanding Variety, Music Or Comedy Series.’ This year is no different and like years past, he’s got some tough competition.
Also nominated for ‘Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series’ are The Colbert Report, The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien.
Maher has also been nominated for three more Emmys this year: ‘Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special,’ ‘Outstanding Writing For A Variety, Music Or Comedy Series,’ and ‘Outstanding Writing For A Variety, Music Or Comedy Special.’

Bill Maher has made no secret of his disgust for BP and the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Week after week on his show, “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Maher has vented his spleen to his respective panels who typically consist of scholars, political pundits, journalists and the occasional celebrity activist. To say Bill has been irked about the disaster would be putting it lightly.
Last Friday was Maher’s last for the season until September, and he declared the BP oil spill to be the topic of the panel, i.e., the ONLY topic being discussed. He started things off with no holds barred declaring:
“I have been holding my nose about this oil issue. Every week, I do not want to talk about it and we do. But you know, this is the last show of the season, my last time to vent, so I kind of had a change of heart this week, and this whole show might just be about how much oil sucks. (Read More…)

HBO has just announced that Maher’s show, “Real Time With Bill Maher,” will be renewed for its ninth season. It airs Friday nights at 10pm EST/PT.
Station executives have also decided to increase the episode count from 24 to 35. The new season is scheduled to begin in early 2011. Additionally, Bill Maher’s contract with HBO was extended for another two years. Senior Vice President of HBO Entertainment responds, “Bill Maher is one of the most sought-after opinion makers on TV… I’m delighted that this fearless and provocative observer will return to HBO next year. By presenting an increased number of episodes in 2011, we’ll be able to bring this live, topical show to our subscribers almost year-round.”
On this past weekend’s show, Maher proposed the notion of Steve Jobs for president, pointing out that the Obama administration is far from implementing any change in this country, reflecting on the recent remarks of the President stating that “iPads, iPods, Xboxes and Playstations were a source of distraction, rather than a tool of democracy for the United States.” While the Tea-baggers talked to taking our country back, Maher proclaims he wants his country forward. Bill Maher’s new HBO Comedy Special will air Saturday, February 13th at 10 PM.
The show, “Bill Maher…But I’m Not Wrong,” is the socially-conscious funnyman’s ninth special for the network. Maher takes on religion, politics, and other hot topics – while it’s sure to be a good time, it’s not suggested for a romantic Valentine’s Day date.
Bill Maher Tickets, however - that’s an option!
